Our Friday afternoon junior competitions, played on our Par 3 course, have over the years proved to be most successful in identifying talent, developing golfing skills and teaching kids to embrace the competitive spirit. We are extremely proud that we had the opportunity to play a major development role in the success of some of our past junior players that started their competitive golf with us. Many of these youngsters went on to represent the WP & Boland Junior Golf Foundation teams at Junior Inter Provincial level, under 23 and senior level.
Players that come to mind are Aaron Russel, Mark Segers, Adrian Ford, Lester Wagner, Joubert van Eeden, Louis le Grange, Riko Geldenhuys and many others that went on to and are still performing at the highest level.
Our junior competitions are aimed at the Primary School learners. We want to give them the opportunity to play competitive golf at a early age. To learn how to win, but also learn how to lose. To learn that if they want to be successful they need to put in the hours of practise to hone the skills necessary to become a top competitor. To compete against your peers, to learn from them, to identify your own shortcomings, to manage your game and to control your temprement are all part of developing yourself as a golfer. We afford the youngsters the opportunity to do so at an early age.
ALL junior golfers are more than welcome to play in our competitions. They need NOT be members of Wagner's or of a golf club. They DO NOT need a handicap. What they DO NEED is the will to play golf, to learn, meet new golfing buddies, want to have fun and to compete.
We work closely with the Foundation and encourage all our players to join them . During the school holidays the youngsters have the opportunity to compete in various tournaments presented by the Foundation. A link to the Foundations website can be found on our homepage.
